After a nine year hiatus, Focus on the Family relaunched their popular magazine for young girls. I was tasked with redesigning the wordmark.*
In the end we went with a playful hand-lettered brush script that appeal to the target demographic, while bringing a fresh modern feel to the brand.

This custom wordmark was selected for the Award of Excellence in the 2018 Communication Arts Typography Competition, and was featured in their 2018 Typography Annual (Jan-Feb Issue).

This was a huge honor for me. Communication Arts magazine is the leading trade journal for visual communications, and the largest creative magazine in the world.
This is a juried competition that celebrates the best use of typography as the primary visual element in design and advertising, plus new typeface designs, calligraphy and hand lettering.
There were 1,753 entries and only 132 winners—just 16 in the identity category.
